Our Offering

We accept children into Bertrum House from the term after they turn two years old. We strongly believe that all children are best able to learn in the mornings when they are focused and fresh, so all of our children are offered morning school enrolment.

Flexible Beginnings and Comprehensive Preparation

Flexible Beginnings and Comprehensive Preparation

In order to provide a gentle start for two year old children in their first term, there is the option of joining us for a minimum of three mornings a week (Tuesday through Thursday). To accommodate our busy curriculum, this increases to five mornings in the second term.

All children have the option of staying for our lunch club, or if they are no longer napping, they can join us for our specialist afternoon schools until 3.15pm. We encourage all children in their pre-reception year to attend at least one afternoon school as preparation for starting primary school.

Morning school (8.45am – 12.00pm)

When children arrive in the morning they are encouraged to independently unpack their bags, before starting their day. Each class will then come together to self-register, say good morning and find out more about the session from the visual timetable.

We strongly believe that the morning learning is best started outdoors so the children then dress themselves in their outdoor clothing before heading out onto the field for an hour.  Outdoor learning is carefully planned to incorporate a focused activity and play to develop all areas of the EYFS.

After snack time, the children are able to choose activities in their classroom that have been designed to encourage interests and develop individual next steps. Play based activities are carefully planned to ensure that every child is able to extend their learning and work towards confidence in key concepts and skills.

In addition to their outdoor learning routine and free-flow play in the classroom, the children will have a class based carpet time; individual or small group focus activities; regular toileting breaks; and additional learning support activities where needed.

Peripatetic teachers lead ballet and yoga classes on Wednesday and Friday mornings respectively.

It’s a full morning timetable!

Lunch (12.00pm – 1.00pm)

Each day the fabulous catering team from Chilli Bees deliver a hot meal direct to the nursery from their Earlsfield kitchen. The children are seated together in the hall and served their hot meal, followed by fresh fruit and yoghurt. This shared eating experience encourages the children to try new foods whilst staff supervise the meal and a short playtime.

Afternoon School (1.00pm – 3.15pm)

Our afternoon schools are designed to complement the more structured activities of our morning school. Each afternoon features a specialist session and provides an opportunity for the children to consolidate their learning and engage in more creative play. It’s testament to the depth of experience of our teaching team that they are qualified to lead specialist sessions in sport, music, art, outdoor learning and our very own Bertrum Book Club.
